FLASH POETRY

my neighbor absconded

and i never said goodbye

wave to her as she rolled away

or blink as the brake lights faded

every day now

i see the vacant porch

suspended in darkness by eight

under velvet shadows by dawn

and i wonder where she went

and if she knows herself

she left an extension cord

bleeding from the doorframe

where she once hung lights

that no one saw

because they were too busy seeing

and remnants of plants

once a jungle for my escape

reduced to a crispy gecko

left between windowpanes

yet i saw her

i saw her before goodbye

and never hello
